Worms Revolution review

Worms Revolution was developed and published by Team 17 Software. It was released on October 10, 2012 for $14.99 or your regional equivalent. A copy of the game was provided for review purposes.

The Worms franchise has been around for a long time, almost two decades. If you haven’t heard of it by now, you should probably put down the PS3 controller, hop online, and do some research about the PC games of yesteryear. Somehow, developers Team 17 have found a way to keep players coming back for more. Maybe it is the insane gameplay of the Worms games, or maybe it is just the fact that the feisty little worms are so darn cute. I’m not really sure. But, Team17 set itself a high bar with Worms Revolution  by promising to bring the quintessential classic Worms experience into the 21st Century. Did they succeed?

Sony includes PayPal Payment Method for PlayStation Network, but not in U.S.

Sony has rolled out another payment method for PlayStation Network users in the form of PayPal, but Sony has not yet made the PayPal payment method available to PSN users in the United States.

The move happens after issues with PlayStation Network security affected users last year, so it remains to be seen how popular the PayPal option will be among those who have access to it.

For those that do have access to PayPal on the PlayStation Network, there is a catch. Your PayPal and PlayStation Network accounts must be registered in the same country. Also worthy of note is that users will not have access to the PayPal payment method from the PlayStation 3 and will have to login to their account on a computer to access the payment method.

Sony has not commented on whether or not the PayPal payment method will be coming to U.S. users.

Sony poised to release free-to-play SingStar

It appears that Microsoft’s recent release of Happy Wars as the only current-gen free-to-play console title will be short-lived. Confirmation has not been given by Sony, but the game’s Twitter page has been hinting at a release as a free PSN app.

Perhaps Sony is hoping that by offering the game as a free app, more people will download songs from the game’s online store. Either way, there is much to be excited for.

Recently, Sony has aggressively pursued the development of the free-to-play portions of its digital distribution platforms. More apps have been showing up for free on PSN, in addition to the free downloads PlayStation Plus users already have access to. The upcoming release of Dust 514 is another free-to-play title that Sony is hoping to have success with.

Regardless of what happens with SingStar in relation to free-to-play, look for the title to launch this week.

Under Defeat HD coming to PSN

The Dreamcast shoot ‘em up Under Defeat, developed by G.rev, has received a makeover and is on its way to PSN. Under Defeat HD will feature updated graphics, a two-player mode, and what is being called New Order Mode, which take advantage of HD televisions by displaying the game on screen in 16:9.

The localization of Under Defeat HD means that for the first time players will be able to experience the original Under Defeat in their native language.

The game will release both on PSN and in stores for the PS3 this fall and can be picked up for $29.99. Players who purchase a physical copy of the game will have access to a few perks. Grabbing a retail copy will get players a digital art book, all current DLC and patches, the soundtrack to Under Defeat HD, and a letter from the CEO of G.rev and the game’s executive producer, Hiroyuki Maruyama.

Guardians of Middle-Earth gets a release date

Guardians of Middle-earth, the Middle-earth themed MOBA in development by Monolith Productions, has a release date. Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that players will be able to take Middle-earth’s greatest  heroes into battle on December 4.

The game will get both a digital and retail release, and there is plenty to differentiate the two. The digital copy will run players $14.00 and include no DLC incentives and no Season Pass. The retail copy will cost players $29.00, but will get you access to pre-paid, discounted DLC, a Season Pass, and PSN vouchers equal in value to the $14.00 digital version of the game.
