LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta Now in Session

If you’ve always wanted more kart racing in your cutesy, player-driven platformers, the release of LittleBigPlanet Karting is probably marked on your calendar. What should also be revving your engines is the game’s beta, which is currently in session.

Codes for the multiplayer test were sent out on July 10, but if you signed up and are yet to receive an invite, never fear. More people will be added to the program gradually, and since the beta will continue until July 31, there’s plenty of time for you to still be a part of all the action.

If you haven’t had a chance to sign-up, here’s a link to the form. Get it in quick, and hopefully you’ll get that golden email in the next few days.

PSNFancast Episode 12 – You Can’t Teach an Old Frog New Tricks

The PSNFancast is back in your life, and Chris Hague, Angelo Valdivia and Josiah Renaudin have plenty of catching up to do. The crew opens with both what’s coming out this week on PSN and what they missed last week. The wonders of football, why there shouldn’t be any new Frogger games, the awful release of Bellator and the wonderfully violent The Walking Dead are all discussed, as well as all the serious gaming everyone has been doing over the past two weeks. Angelo puts on his news hat and covers the few recent, PSN-related happenings, which leads to a lengthy discussion on why Sony’s purchase of Gaikai could be a really great thing for the next generation of consoles. Lastly, the group attempts to find a solution for episodic gaming on consoles, which as you’d guess, leads to even more conversation on The Walking Dead. Please subscribe, rate and review the podcast on iTunes. We really appreciate it! Check us out on Twitter (@PSNfans) for some great contests, and don’t forget to send us questions to be read on the next show! Tweet at us with PSN-related inquiries, as well as 140-character opinions on your favorite game from E3 for our “This Week’s Game” segment. Also check out the latest edition of the XBLA Fancast for even more audio goodness (after you finish this podcast, of course).

NiGHTS into Dreams Soaring to PSN This Fall

A SEGA Saturn classic, titled NiGHTS into Dreams, will be making its way to the PlayStation Network this fall with a shiny new coat of paint and a few additional bells and whistles.

A part of SEGA’s attempt to focus on smaller, downloadable titles, this platformer will now be seen in HD, contain leaderboards and support trophies. A Saturn Mode, which will allow players to experience the game in its original format, will also be a part of the package. If you’ve never had a chance to experience this bizarre world, just take a look at the above trailer.

Driven by nostalgia or not, it will be worth taking a look at NiGHTS when it comes to PSN this fall.

The Walking Dead: Episode 2 – Starved for Help Review

The first episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead was one of its finest adventures games; melding stomach-churning violence with a character-driven narrative worth paying attention to. With a fantastic cast of survivors and a presentation ready to stand toe-to-toe with any graphic novel on the market, it was difficult to not get amped about the eventual second episode.

After over a month of anxious waiting, Starved for Help is here to satisfy the undying hunger for the continued tale of Lee and company. Done with basic introductions and back story, Episode 2 is filled to the brim with action and unforeseeable twists – letting the player guide the outcome of established, real characters. It’s a hell of a ride, and one that fans of the first episode shouldn’t miss.

Second Dust 514 Beta Event Underway

The free-to-play, futuristic shooter Dust 514, which is tied to the consistently entertaining Eve Online has entered the second phase of its essential beta testing.

It’s an Independence Day surprise, and while it only runs until July 8, you should still head on over to the official Dust 514 website and throw your name in the hat. A new map is available this time around, but if you’re eagerly anticipating what we here at PSNFans have to say about  the experience as a whole, the current embargo will sadly prevent us from saying a word. Sorry, faithful readers.

Even if you can’t make it into this particular event, get excited for this hot new shooter without a price tag.

Sony has Nothing Planned for Resistance Franchise

After a strong trilogy developed by Insomniac Games and two portable releases from other Sony studios, it seems as if the Resistance franchise has run its course.

Though nothing is definitive, people over at Sony have no plans to continue the series that was established at the launch of the PlayStation 3.

PSNFancast Episode 11 – A Collection of Snakes

The three amigos return for this week’s episode of the PSNFancast, and it’s all about Jeremy’s McGrath’s Offroad. Well, that’s not accurate at all, since discussion on the Uncharted games coming to the Network, two Resident Evil titles for the PlayStation Move going downloadable, the mysteries behind Lego games, and the questionable brilliance of Two Worlds II take up a large chunk of the podcast’s opening. Some adventure games recently released on Steam, as well as the wonderful Gravity Rush, steal the crew’s attention as they tackle what they’ve been playing over the past week.

A few news stories are elaborated on, but a lengthy discussion on how to correctly handle HD releases of older games takes over thanks to the recent announcement of Okami HD. Somehow, Metal Gear Solid sneaks its way into the conversation, and while Angelo may not see the same magic in the series that Chris and Josiah rave over, a few listener comments point to a high level of interest in the franchise.

Huge Sale on Vita Titles in Europe

Let me get straight to the point – the PlayStation Vita is having a fantastic sale as I sit here, writing these words. Many people have complained about the Vita’s lack of software, and while there still hasn’t been a truly groundbreaking game that’s taken full advantage of the hardware, significant discounts on the quality titles available on the Store  now should give you a reason to play that shiny system even more.
