PlayStation Vita System Software Update Available Tonight

Just in time for the official launch, Sony is making software update 1.61 available for download tonight for the PlayStation Vita. New features include a map application, video capturing for the photo application, the ability to publish PlayStation Store stories to Facebook, and updates to both Near and the content manager.

Through the new Near functionality, different players’ information is now shown in the Discoveries screen. Recently met players, along with how many times they’ve been encountered, appear as touchable icons with room for up to 100 online IDs to be stored at a time. Along with these changes comes the updated and improved Windows Content Manager Assistant, as well as a new Mac OS version.

The PlayStation Vita hits store shelves tomorrow. For anyone who plans on picking it up, this update will be waiting when the system first boots up.
