Sony announces PSN Play

With the success of Xbox Live’s ‘Summer of Arcade’ over the last three years, people have been wondering when the PSN will be getting its own annual event of downloadable game releases. Well, Sony finally responded with their own event titled PSN Play. For those unsure of what this could mean for game releases, past Summer of Arcade featured games include Bionic Commando: Re-Armed, Shadow Complex, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and recent PSN additions Castle Crashers and Limbo.

The games announced to kick off this year’s PSN Play fiesta are: Super Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition on August 23rd; The Baconing (the third installment to the popular Death Spank series) on August 30th; Bloodrayne: Betrayal on September 6th; SEGA’s new top-down driving shooter Renegade Ops on September 13th; and Sony Online Entertainment’s gritty FPS Payday: The Heist on September 20th. All games bar Payday: The Heist will be $14.99US with the latter going for $19.99US.

However, for loyal PSN customers who purchase all Play-featured titles will receive a voucher to download Payday free of charge (provided you’re over 18) and for every pre-order on any title you will receive a free piece of DLC for that game plus a theme. PlayStation Plus subscribers on the other hand will receive all these goodies and 20% off each title.

Pre-orders can be made starting August 9th when Sony highlights this new line-up on the Network. Payday: The Heist is the only Sony exclusive on this release list, with all other titles first releasing on the PlayStation Store then moving on to other distributions also soon after.
