Sony poised to release free-to-play SingStar

It appears that Microsoft’s recent release of Happy Wars as the only current-gen free-to-play console title will be short-lived. Confirmation has not been given by Sony, but the game’s Twitter page has been hinting at a release as a free PSN app.

Perhaps Sony is hoping that by offering the game as a free app, more people will download songs from the game’s online store. Either way, there is much to be excited for.

Recently, Sony has aggressively pursued the development of the free-to-play portions of its digital distribution platforms. More apps have been showing up for free on PSN, in addition to the free downloads PlayStation Plus users already have access to. The upcoming release of Dust 514 is another free-to-play title that Sony is hoping to have success with.

Regardless of what happens with SingStar in relation to free-to-play, look for the title to launch this week.
