Free Content Expands Gotham City Impostors

Gotham City impostors, the mutiplayer-focused shooter from Monolith that pits Batman’s followers against Joker fanatics, has just received a free update that adds plenty of new content to a previously rich experience.

Taking a break from the class-based insanity within Gotham? The East End, a brand new map to shoot up, is here to lull you back into the Caped Crusader’s world. It will be available for all game modes after downloading the update, and not only will it be exciting to see some new sights, but it’ll also be perfect for all of your “scummy, dilapidated, urban murdering needs.” Bounty Hunter is the newest game mode where whenever anyone dies, they drop a bounty coin that gets points for your team and adds a serious damage boost to your character for a limited time. Lastly, you can now customize your multiplayer character to speak in different languages. Why? If you have to ask that question, the craziness of Gotham City Impostors isn’t for you.

Gotham City Impostors Public Beta Numbers Released

Gotham City Impostors is a pretty ridiculous game. It’s a class-based, quick moving first-person shooter starring outlandish individuals who have an awkward infatuation with both Batman and his clown-themed villain. Now that the game has been released and the extended beta has gone down, Monolith has decided to make known some of the numbers from the test in a manner as strange as the game itself. Instead of dull spreadsheets, the developer created an infographic that should interest anyone who participated in the public beta.

Some Have Lost it All in Gotham City Impostors

Last week Monolith, after months of beta testing and even moving back the release date, finally launched Gotham City Impostors. It opened up to loving arms and has been praised all across the internet for one reason or another. After tons of love for the faux hero and villain FPS, gamers are reporting that suddenly their stats and unlocks are resetting back to level 1. What makes this worse, out of over 600 posts, it seems all any one did was turn the game off and back on when this occurred.

If this has happened to you head on over to the Gotham City Impostors forums and add a post; Monolith is of course working on fixing the issue.

Where Did All These Impostors Come From?

For quite some time now Gotham City Impostors has been all over the news headlines. We have seen months of beta testing, all sorts of how tos and what to expect videos, pricing and finally this week is the release. The one thing we have yet to hear from Monolith though is why use look-alikes instead of the real deal? Fret no more: Craig Hubbard, Lead Game Design, has come to the rescue with the truth behind the mystery.

He leads out with saying that this was something they had pitched several times before it was finally picked up and taken seriously. The reason why they chose impostors is only one person can be “Batman” or “Joker”, but everyone can impersonate them. One of the hugely plaguing questions is why a developer like Monolith, with plenty of AAA titles under their belt, would choose a “small scale” digital title. The answer was simple: it’s fun working with a smaller team, they could be “up and running right away”, and the key to it all, they knew exactly what they wanted to do. If you were expecting a fully fledged Batman game, sorry to say this isn’t it. According to Craig, this was never a “traditional Batman game, but… an unabashed love letter to Batman.”

Gotham City Imposters is available on the Playstation store for now for $9.99US. You can read the full “origin” story on the US Playstation Blog.

Gotham City Impostors community Q&A 4

Although Gotham City Impostors was recently delayed, that sure hasn’t slowed them down from answering a few questions from the community, bringing us new details about the game. First, we now know there will be single player, in the way of a challenge mode and that when it comes to customization the combinations will be, “blue-whale-on-steroids huge”. As far as the servers go, they will rely on both, peer-to-peer hosting and dedicated servers. They also confirmed that as much as we want it, there will be no cross platform play.

The final little tidbit that they have thrown our way is that they will have several game modes, one of them being Psych Warfare. This is there version of CTF, which will add gameplay consequences every time you let the other team score. Make sure to stay tuned as we bring you all the up-to-date info on this unique IP.
