Spelunkers rejoice, The Cave has arrived

Double Fine Productions brings the adventure in their latest release, The Cave. Ron Gilbert, adventure game designer luminary (Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle), brings the adventure game back into the spotlight. Choosing from seven characters, the player selects three to explore the dark secrets of the cave. Each of the seven characters have their own reasons for delving into the darkness. The Cave is different for each of the characters, and all three are needed to solve the puzzles.

The Cave supports two or three player local co-op play and each of the seven characters has special moves the help solve certain puzzles. While aspects of The Cave may be “platformy,” it is a tried and true adventure game. Creative and deviant thought are highly encouraged. The Cave can be found for $14.99 on PSN, XBLA and Steam.

SEGA has announced a new game by the collaborating efforts of Double Fine and legendary developer Ron Gilbert, titled The Cave. This new sidescrolling adventure game sees players assembling a team of three “unlikely adventurers” who have “their own unique personalities and skills”. The game will take these characters through a subterranean amusement park, a medieval castle, and even a ready-to-fire nuclear ballistic missile. SEGA delineates the game as “an adventure game so odd and compelling that it can only be described as odd and compelling”.

The Cave is aiming for an early 2013 release on PSN, XBLA and Steam.
