Skullgirls: Slightly Different Edition patch available

The beautiful, unique and wacky 2D fighting game Skullgirls has been updated to a “slightly different edition”. For a free patch, it sure does include an amazing amount of fixes and adjustments. Nearly every feature has been improved in some way: added features, balance changes, general gameplay changes, Online Mode improvements, newly added move lists (finally!)… everything you could ask for!

The detailed changes are too numerous to list here, so pay a visit to the official site for the lowdown.

I Am Alive Tops the PSN Charts in April

The latest issue of Pulse has detailed the top ten downloaded games on the PlayStation Network for the month of April. I Am Alive, the Ubisoft title all about surviving a dangerous and barren world, crawled to the top of the chart, beating out perennial contender Jouney. Interestingly, the season pass for The Walking Dead pushed more units than the $5 first episode, while Skullgirls once again proved that a quality combat system and fully female cast are difficult to ignore. Here’s the entire list:

  1. I Am Alive
  2. Journey
  3. The Walking Dead Season Pass
  4. Skullgirls
  5. The Walking Dead: Episode 1
  6. The House of the Dead 4
  7. Persona 3 FES
  8. Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection
  9. GTA: Episodes from Liberty City
  10. Escape Plan

Though the first five titles are new, original pieces of content, the next four are re-releases of popular classics. Any surprises make it into the top ten? Anything that belongs on the list but didn’t make the cut?

PSNFancast Episode 3 – A Classic from the Land Down Under

It’s a three-man crew this week as Perry Jackson of XBLAFans fame joins Angelo Valdivia and Josiah Renaudin for another edition of the PSNFancast. The show opens with a bit of talk on Awesomenaut’s near-death experience, the value of coming into a game blind, the glorious JRPG that was The Legend of Dragoon, as well as some wrap-up on the first episode of The Walking Dead.

After discussion on what we’ve been playing, Angelo grabs the mic to dig into the latest PSN news – leading into a hot discussion on the absence of PSOne Classics from the PlayStation Vita. The Community Corner is tackled last, where a listener’s opinion on The Walking Dead along with personal multiplayer preferences are discussed.

Check us out on Twitter (@PSNfans) for some great contests, and don’t forget to send us questions to be read on the next show! Tweet at us with PSN-related inquiries, as well as 140-character opinions on Awesomenauts for our “This Week’s Game” segment. Also check out the latest edition of the XBLA Fancast for even more audio goodness (after you finish this podcast, of course).

Skullgirls Developer Working on New Updates

Reverge Labs has just revealed that Skullgirls went on to sell over 50,000 copies in the first ten days since it launched. That’s a really good number, especially when you consider that the game isn’t even out in Europe yet. Over on the dev’s Twitter page, Reverge Labs went on to thank fans for their support and to let them know that work on the “first updates” has begun.

It’s not clear what exactly will be entailed in the new updates, but the dev has insisted that Skullgirls will be updated to include features that were left out because of time constraints, if the game sold well enough.

Europe Getting Skullgirls Next Week

I just heard the bad news: Skullgirls isn’t on the European PlayStation Network yet. And that’s sad because that game is so good. You European PS3 owners are totally missing out one of the flashiest and coolest PSN titles of the year. Am I rubbing it in? That doesn’t matter because Skullgirls is heading to Europe on May 2nd. That’s next week!

The good news doesn’t stop there, either. For those of you who already have the game, but can’t get enough Skullgirls goodness, the soundtrack is now available on iTunes and CDBaby for a reasonable $10. Check that out.

Skullgirls Gets Release Date, New Character Trailer

The long wait for the fully female fighter Skullgirls is just about over, as developer Reverge Labs has revealed a North American release date of April 10 for this PSN title. The European release will be a few weeks later.

The trailer above demonstrates the eighth playable character, Double. Like the rest of the cast, Double is a beautifully animated fighter with more quirks than most people like in a woman, as she goes from the appearance of a nun to a terrifying monster in the blink of an eye. You’ll have to master all of the battlers if you hope to achieve greatness in this online experienced designed by a tournament champ, though. There are a few planned tournaments and events in Skullgirls future, and with a price tag of $14.99 for a fully-featured fighting game, it will be easy to jump in next week and get cracking at the online competition

Get Ready for Double the Trouble in Skullgirls

Skullgirls is a new all girl fighter coming soon from Konami and Reverge Labs. Up until now we have only met the 8 girls of the game, but now we get to meet Double, Skullgirls’ boss character. Double is a shapeless blob capable of taking any human form it chooses. The origins of Double are unknown, although it is often seen at the Grand Cathedral in the shape of a “smiling nun”, taking confessions or tending to the catacombs.
