We here at PSN Fans love news: release dates, gameplay trailers, hardware details… You name it. However we can’t always report on everything that trickles out of the news machine, which is where Weekly News Catch-Up comes in. Here we cover some of the stories that didn’t make it to the front page the first time around.
On tap this week: DLC for Reality Fighters, Square Enix formally confirms the re-release of three PS2 classics, a Kickstarter project developing the sequel to a recent Dreamcast favourite, and a new Resistance: Burning Skies trailer.
Reality Fighters Getting New DLC (PlayStation Blog EU)
Popular augmented reality Vita game, Reality Fighters, is getting three new DLC packs with one being a freebie. The Weapons Pack offers players some new tools to lay the smack down on some friends, and is completely free of charge. The Football Fight Pack gifts soccer fans some extra choice of up to 16 new special moves, a new fighting style, several ultra moves and comes at a price of €2.99. The most interesting of the bunch though is the new Ghostbusters Pack, allowing the use of a Proton Pack and the popular GB transport Ecto-1. This package will also cost €2.99.
Those looking to get into this new content can find the Weapons Pack currently available on the PSN, and have May 16th to look forward to the other two.
PEGI Lets Slip Three PS2 Re-Releases, Square Enix Confirms (Eurogamer)
Following up on reports by Eurogamer, Square Enix has announced the eventual release of PS2 classics Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, Conflict: Desert Storm 2 and Conflict: Vietnam. The reports come after a classification listing by PEGI rated the game as age 16 and specified a PS3 release. Square Enix then revealed the release dates of three upcoming re-releases: Deus Ex on May 16th for £7.99; Conflict: Desert Storm 2 on May 23rd for £7.99; and Conflict: Vietnam on May 30th for £5.49.
2009 Dreamcast Release to Get Sequel (Joystiq)
Cult hit Dux, the 2009 “shmup” developed specifically for SEGA’s long dead Dreamcast, is looking to get a sequel on current-gen digital distribution. Developers Rene Hellwig and KTX Software are looking to develop their next entry Redux with the help of a Kickstarter funding campaign. Their current goal of $250,000US will see the release of Redux on PSN, XBLA and Steam. Contributors of $65 or more however, will receive a limited edition Dreamcast copy of the sequel. New Resistance: Burning Skies Trailer and Trophy List (PlayStation Blog EU)
For those looking forward to the Vita-specific entry of the Resistance series, the PlayStation Blog has released the complete trophy list for the game plus a special look at the new Vita features for Burning Skies.
