Weekly news catch-up: Week of September 10

We here at PSN Fans love news: release dates, gameplay trailers, hardware details… You name it. However we can’t always report on everything that trickles out of the news machine, which is where Weekly News Catch-Up comes in. Here we cover some of the stories that didn’t make it to the front page the first time around.

News on tap this week: Spartacus Legends, Thunder Wolves, The Walking Dead, PS Vita 3G (Canada), Monster Hunter, Lets Fish!, Dragon Fantasy Book II

Spartacus Legends going free-to-play in 2013 (Computer and Video Games via Video Gaming 24/7)

Ubisoft has recently announced that their upcoming game Spartacus Legends is going free-to-play. This is a huge announcement, FTP is still a rather new area for consoles, so it is nice to see large companies stepping into the arena. Ubisoft has gone on record to say that you will not be able to use in game transactions to rise to the top. No matter how much money you have, you will only be able to purchase equipment in your ‘fame’ (rank) level. So get ready for some blood splattering hits fights coming your way in early 2013.

The Walking Dead: Episode 3 – Long Road Ahead  finally release in Europe (Neoseeker)

In case you didn’t know, The Walking Dead: Episode 3 launched at the end of August for North America, but failed to appear on the European store. Well this is no more as you, so if you are a Walking Dead fan and have been waiting on this, wait no more, Sony has finally pushed it onto the digital shelves.

PS Vita  3G in Canada (Joystiq)

Sony announced that they will be–finally–releasing the PS Vita 3G in Canada on October 2. The bundle will set you back $299.99 and will come with Gravity Rush and Unit 13. The 3G service will be provided by Rogers and will come in two packages: either 5 GB ($35) or 250 MB ($15).

Thunder Wolves announced for PSN (Destructoid)

In this upcoming title for PSN, Ubisoft promises we will see “bullets flying everywhere”. We will be seeing more then “30 combinations of choppers and weapons” and a two player co-op mode. Two player won’t be the traditional double helicopter like you would inspect, instead, one player will be piloting the chopper, while the other will man the guns. Keep your eyes out for this one as it definitely looks good–lets hope it is better then Choplifter HD.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite pulled from the PlayStation Store (The Six Axis)

The huge hit Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, from Capcom, was recently pulled from the PlayStation Store. Why you ask? Not due to poor sales or a lack of interest, it was actually pulled as an exploit was recently found allowing playing to ‘hack’ their PS Vita. This is not the first time Sony has had to pull a game for similar issues, but in the past the games have always been patched and made available again. So no worries, if the past is what we have to base the future off of, then this is only a temporary set back.

Let’s Fish! Hooked announced for the PS Vita (EU PlayStation Blog)

This upcoming title for the PS Vita aims to be the first “full-scale” fishing game available for the system. You can play as one of four characters, each one having their own skills, making each one feel unique. Each character will have their own story line–we have no clue why a fishing game needs a story either. You can also expect to see four different game modes, nine different species of fish, 240 lure and 11 different spots to fish.

Dragon Fantasy Book II announced at PAX Prime 2012(Planet PlayStation)

This new follow up RPG was recently announced at PAX Prime. Bringing players the continued story of the four protagonist from the first game. Being completely inspired by games of old, you will see a classic style fighting system matched with retro 16-bit graphics. A great way to relive the past, while still giving it a fresh ‘new’ feel.

Realms of Ancient War releases two new trailers

This is a new hack-n-slash, coming from Focus Home Interactive and Wizorbox on September 25, allowing you to take the role of the one of three characters: The Warrior, The Wizard and The Rogue. Allowing players to take on the story in in single player or 2 player co-op, as you journey to save the three realms. In these two new videos we get to meet the  Rogue and see the game in its fantastic co-op, so focus your viewing globes on the amazing videos below.

…and just in case you missed the first two character profiles, here ya go, you’re welcome.
